Waiaka means the reflection when you look into the water. Waiau is the name of a water goddess and a peak, and a lake on top of Mauna Kea. Hawaiians observed the stars by looking at Lake Waiau’s reflection. Lake Waiau is the place where Poli’ahu the snow goddess bathed. Art by Malialuika
