Moku ‘O Keawe is the ancient name for the Big Island of Hawaiʻi.  Translated, it is “The island of Keawe”. Keawe us the name of the high chief, whose family still resides on the island today.

This hand-drawn ʻOhe Kapala (bamboo stamping) design created by Malialuika was arranged exactly as it would have been traditionally stamped on Kapa.

Kapa is a traditional fabric made from the inner bark of a local tree, then soaked and pounded and joined to make a whole fabric. These were then stamped with designs using plant dyes. After this same tradition, this design was created using modern techniques.

This Dark Blue/Black/Brown ‘Ohe kapala (bamboo stamp) “Hele” (to go) Design by Malialuika is a beautiful addition to any home.
