Lāhui Unisex Rubba Slippahs
ABOUT THE ART
Lāhui means Nation in Hawaiian
This hand-drawn ʻOhe Kapala (bamboo stamping) design created by Malialuika was arranged exactly as it would have been traditionally stamped on Kapa (bark cloth). The use of layering in the stamped design created an effect of the multitudes of people, both past and present that make up the Hawaiian nation.
Stamped Kapa is the true Hawaiian "Aloha" print versus what is marketed and sold around the world since the advent of tourism in the 1950s.
